I just noticed another problem in that excerpt. Doesn't "exchanging shifts with workmates" contradict the entire JW philosophy? Think about it; if you exchange shifts with a workmate, doesn't that nullify his or her chances of attending a meeting? I thought JWs were supposed to witness and recruit more members. You can't do that if you are stunting other's chances of going to meetings just so you can go yourself.

The Society is gonna let you off your homework kids!
by nicolaou infrom the current (uk) edition of 'our kingdom ministry'.
take a close look at paragraph 4. am i the only one who can see the old pattern of the 1980's re-emerging?
i had thought that the watchtower had begun to take a more reasonable approach to the secular education of it's members children yet here they are again in 2004 willing to jeopardise the education these young people receive for the sake of indoctrination and control.. .

I love my Game Boy Advance. I'm currently hooked on Fire Emblem. The U.S. version is actually the 7th. The others have only been released in Japan.
I just hope they port 1-6 eventually.

the seven times of Daniel chapter 4
by dustyb inin the model nebuchadnezzar was the definite direct object in the account.
that definite object took the simple action of being cut down from the subject, god.
thus the larger or antitypical fulfillment describes how god cut down satan's rule over the earth until seven times passed over him.

. the book itself gives no hint that the 7 times refers to anything other than the Nebuchanezzar story.
This always stumped me while I was studying with the dubs. I asked them about this several times, they would explain it to me, and I would still be stumped.
The whole 1914 is nothing more than the dubs pulling scriptures all over the Bible, taking things out of context, and stuffing a bunch of numbers into a giant, convoluted mess.

Awake! says we can pray in Jesus' name!!!
by Leolaia inaccording to this, jesus is not just the mediator of the 144,000 -- he's the mediator of mankind!!
and apparently "dear jesus" prayers are okay!
the watch tower says i can say, "dear jesus, you are my mediator as you are for all mankind..." "the bible clearly says that jesus christ is mankind's redeemer, so he is mankind's mediator.

Though he is not their legal Mediator , for they are not in the new covenant, he is their means of approaching Jehovah.?
Okay, this sentence contradicts itself. It says Jesus is not our legal mediator, but yet he is our means of approaching Jehovah. Isn't the purpose of a mediator to allow us access to something or somebody else? If that's the case, then why isn't he our legal mediator? Who is our legal mediator?
And whoever said it is right. The reason we find fault with the organization is because of their pompous attitude that they are always right and their claim that they have a monopoly on the truth. If you're going to boast about such understanding, then people have every right to criticize.

How the WTS brings a child's confidence & self-esteem down
by Nosferatu inthis is a bit of a spinoff of avishai's post "anyone been beat up for being a dub?
" i suffered this as a jw and i completely blame the wts for it.
the following quotes are from the pink great teacher book:.

Unfortunately, even non-dubs experience similiar things in school. Growing up is hard enough... being the target for someone else makes it unbearable.
Correct. This problem isn't particular to JWs alone. While the WT gives you garbage, shouldn't part of the blame be directed at the people who tease you? Why does our society feel it's okay to laugh and jeer at people who are different, yet we constantly preach tolerance for diversity and all that happy hogwash? I think the WTS is only half the problem.

Do JWs fear God or the organization? Can they distinguish between the two?
by somebodylovesme ini bring this up because i was just thinking about some crap i went through with my jw in-laws awhile back -- when i was marrying their son and we were desperately trying to figure out a way to do a wedding without him getting disfellowshipped.
the things i heard them say (their objections) seemed framed by what the elders would say, how it would look to the congregation, their privileges, etc.
i don't remember ever hearing them say that anything would displease jehovah.

So out of curiosity... when you were a Witness, was there a difference to you between the judgment of the Witnesses and the judgment of God?
I was never craptized, but I got the vibes that given the fact elders can lower the boom on you and disfellowship you, then no, there is no difference between the judgement of witnesses and the judgement of God as far as JWs are concerned.

Spankings at the hall.
by avishai ini knew some parents who really beat the hell out of their kids.
anyone else remember this?
seems like when i was a kid, you could'nt go to a meeting without hearing screams of pain from either the b room or the bathrooms.

It really doesn't make sense to try to make small children sit at attention for a couple of hours, or longer at assemblies when in fact the adults usually don't understand what is being taught either.
If you think that's bad, you should hear the JWs rationale behind it. They tell people that they don't "banish" kids to Sunday School. Now, I've been to other churches, and I don't recall ever dreading Sunday School like someplace to which I was being banished.

THE GOOD OLD DAYS?
by moses ini was wondering if the witnesses still get together and study the watchtower as a group before the sunday meetings i remember in the old days this was very common, also picnics at the forest preserves evrybody seemed to be upbeat helping each other out with either rides to the meetings or wedding and baby showers .other than the hassel we got at school things weren't that bad.
i haven't been to a meeting for awhile and was wondering if it is all the same.

Yeah, I used to study with a group every Wednesday evening. We would usually have a meal before hand, and sometimes we would go out for pizza. During these studies, people were a little more relaxed and would cut up and tease.
For awhile they had some sort of get-togethers, but then the elders said no more because someone might get carried away and do something wrong.
And yet here is a perfect example of the absurdity of their beliefs. So people shouldn't get together because they might do something wrong? LOL! Using that line of thinking, I guess they shouldn't have meetings at the hall either, because some kid might throw up all over the rug, or somebody might blurt out something inappropriate during the Watchtower study, or people might fall asleep during a talk.
